Emergency crews were first called to the scene around 9 p.m., Monday, March 27 after a two-story home went up in flames in the 1900 block of Aventurine Way, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a possible electrical failure with exterior lighting fixtures or smoking materials igniting combustible material under the back deck of the home.

All five occupants of the home were able to get out safely before the fire tore through the residence, causing $600,000 worth of damages.

The heavy fire conditions injured two firefighters, who are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A PEPCO meter had reportedly also indicated tampering when investigators arrived.
